Cookies Anyone?

The smell of cookies wafting through the air. No matter who you are, I think this smell brings you back to the good ole days and if you are like me than there is nothing better than chocolate. NOTHING! Growing up I dubbed myself a chocoholic. You may snicker, but it is a real thing. Actually there are many studies that show that sugar is more addictive than cocaine! Well, these cookies are a little slice of heaven on earth. They are higher in calories but as you will see the ingredients are so much better for you than regular chocolate cookies. Now if you are doing 30 Days to Fit with me, these are not for us until we are at our goal weight! Stay the course and we will make it! But, if you have kiddos or a husband with a sweet tooth (like mine), these are a great fit! They are so good!

Anna Joy’s Magic Protein Cookiescookies

1/2 cup Coconut Oil
3/4 cup Coconut Sugar
1 large Egg
1 tbsp pure Vanilla Extract
1/4 tsp Salt (I use Himalayan Pink Salt, it’s better for you)
3 scoops (3/4 cup) Arbonne Chocolate Protein Powder
1/2 cup Namaste Gluten Free Flour*
1 cup dairy free Chocolate Chips (I use Trader Joe’s brand)

These are so simple to make. Mix all ingredients in order and place onto a greased cookie sheet. I put aluminum down so I don’t have as much clean up afterwards. Cook at 350 degrees for 18 minutes. Enjoy! I make larger cookies and this recipe yields 12 cookies.

*I wanted to make a quick note of Namaste flour. I have tried many gluten free flours and this happens to be my favorite! I use it when I need a thinker soup. I use it as a replacement for any flour that I need and I cannot tell a difference between this and regular flour that spikes your blood sugar and wreaks havoc on your system! I buy mine at Costco, but I have found it on Amazon as well!

Weight Loss Why

Everything you do in life has to have a why backing it up. From the small things like grocery shopping (because your fridge is looking a little sad) to going to help someone move (because you are friends and they would do it for you) to the big things like giving away money (because you feel like it what you are called to do)… What is your weight loss why? Even better what is your health why? Yes for me at the moment I am looking at health because I want to lose weight, but there is always a deeper why. Whether you share it with people or not, that is up to you, but to be successful at anything you have to know your why.

Recently I was talking with a friend of mine and just this month she has had 4 friends diagnosed with cancer. We all know someone who has been affected. My father passed away just a couple years ago from that very thing. The harsh truth is that autoimmune disease, dementia, heart disease, and all kinds of other serious diseases are on the rise. 20170222_083935.jpg

About 4 months ago now I had this handsome little man…

I realized that if I don’t do something now, I may not get the privilege of seeing Braden graduate, or grow up to be doctor or a fireman. If my generation does not realize that the food has changed and is killing us, the next generation wont be know as Gen Z, they will be know as the  orphan generation. That is a scary thought! Many people tell me, “My great grandmother could eat whatever she wanted and she lived to be a ripe old age!” That may be true, I know it was true of my great grandmother, but times are different. There are more toxins in our skin care and lotions. There are more chemicals in our water. The food has been hybridized and genetically modified to the point that our bodies don’t recognize it as food anymore! Not to mention that our food is doused with glyphosate (round-up) and we are consuming those chemicals in our non-organic food!

The genetic modifying of foods on a widescale began around 1996 and Round-Up on food crops was widely available around 1990. Since then there have been many studies comparing this movement in the farming industry and the rise of disease. Look at a few of these charts from a study done by Journal of Organic Systems.  I think a picture is worth a thousand words.

Now I am not a doctor, scientist or a farmer, BUT I believe that there is too much evidence to show that our food is killing us. We need to eat one ingredient foods that are pulled from the ground. If it is in a box or a bag it more than likely has GMO ingredients in that “food”. Take a minute and find your why. Decide what will drive you to take a stand and be healthy! Mine is for by baby Braden, What’s Yours?

Curbing that Sweet Tooth

As I am walking through the first couple month of clean eating, I am realizing that when I allowed sugar back into my life, I was simply relapsing on my addiction. The harsh truth about sugar is that it is more addictive than cocaine and more detrimental to our gut and our brain than many things!! According to Dr. Mercola, the average American consumes 32 teaspoons of sugar a day! The high consumption of sugar leads to kidney disease, liver failure, insulin resistance and obesity! This is an epidemic sweeping the nation. One of the main sources of sugar in our food is High Fructose Corn Syrup. I am surprised by how many people think that this is not a problem. Look at this picture.

So all of that to say that getting sugar out of your diet is not an easy task, but when you do, it will change your life. Over the past month I have had my cravings, yes, but I know that without sugar my body is not inflamed, my brain is clearer and I am healthier overall. So lets talk about how to quench that sugar urge… I have two weapons in my arsenal. The first is a product from Arbonne’s nutritional line. It is called a fit chew. They come in chocolate, caramel and lemon. My favorite by far is the caramel. They help to curb your appetite as well as quench that sweet tooth!

My second weapon for the crazy sweet tooth is brownies… Yes you read that right. I love to make brownies with protein powder. I got my recipe from the site They turned out so good and they really help with carb and sweet cravings! I wouldn’t have them everyday if I were you, but they are a great treat!

Fiji Water

I have recently found an article that fascinated me. It was all about a water that will reverse the detrimental side effects of aluminum in your body. Overtime aluminum has been used in your everyday products because it is so versatile. It is in your deodorant, in your toothpaste, in your hair products it’s in everything! In recent years aluminum has been linked to major diseases like cancer, autism, and Alzheimer’s. Aluminum is also found in most of the vaccinations that we give our children! According to this website the effects of aluminum on children can be severe. They include brain and bone disease and kidney disease. That’s terrifying!family-shot_1458759250412_1459983071679

So how do we fix it? Most people you would ask would just tell you to do it detox. That’s great, but let me tell you an easier way. According to this study drinking silicon rich mineral water helps to cleanse your body of that aluminum. It has been shown to help an Alzheimer cases, and in vaccine injured people. This article is done in the United Kingdom, and states that after the studies were made that found that silicon rich water removed aluminum from your body, supermarkets boycotted the brands. The only brand of water sold in the United States is none other than Fiji Water. If your babies drink formula you can make their bottles with Fiji Water.

For me, I am planning on making my protein shakes with Fiji Water! Alzheimer’s and brain disease is a very scary thing to think about in your older years. It is far too common, and becoming more and more common everyday. If this is something that can help the problem, everyone should know!

Let’s Get Stuff Done

Do you ever feel like there’s just not enough time in the day? Do you wish that you could get caffeine out of your system to be healthier? Let me tell you about a recipe that I recently learned. I’m so excited about it! Arbonne detox tea is formulated to help support the liver and kidneys detox the toxins out of your system. Arbonne Fizz sticks are made with ginseng and vitamin B to give you that calm energy to help you get through your day! Before I discovered Arbonne, I was addicted to monster! I loved them, but the problem was you would drink one and have the energy you needed and then crash, causing you to be forced to drink another! These Little Fizz sticks have given me the energy to get things done without the crash from the sugar and excess caffeine.

Here is my new favorite way to drink it. Before I go to bed I steep my new favorite tea, Arbonne detox tea, for about 15 minutes. (I like it strong) I put it in the fridge and in the morning add my pomegranate flavored Fizz stick. Now I have a drink that is healthy for me and will give me the energy to start my day off right! Enjoy!

Vinegar… Who Knew?

Good news! I have finished my first 30 Days full force into 30 Days to Healthy Living and I am down 7 pounds and I feel good! When I gained weight while I was pregnant, my knees started to hurt and I was so discouraged, but after only one month there is no pain in my knees and I am awake again! Lord knows that as a new mom I need all the energy I can get! I am reminded time and time again that our bodies are a well oiled machine and if you put dirt in your gas tank, your car isn’t going very far! Same with your body! If you put genetically modified foods, sugar filled junk and processed foods into your body, you are sluggish, sick and overweight!

At this point in my journey I would normally do Arbonne’s 7 Day cleanse. I love it because it targets the blood as well as the GI tract. You see, your body has fat and those fat cells hold onto toxins. When you lose weight, YAY, those toxins are released thus you do a cleanse to help detox your system. The Arbonne cleanse is over a week and you mix it into 32 ounces of water and drink it throughout the day. I was a little discouraged when I was told not to do an intense detox while I was breastfeeding because your baby’s body is learning how to process things, and does not need the cleanse too.  I was talking to my mother, Linda Jeffrey, author of Appetite for God, and as always she pulled out the natural science that I love! She told me that if I wanted to detox, without doing a “cleanse” I should drink a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar every morning when I wake up. This intrigued me so I went to the computer to do some research. Dr Mercola is an authoritative source that I have found helpful when it comes to a holistic approach to modern medicine. According to him, it does not necessarily cause weight loss, but studies have shown that it is a great appetite suppressant, who knew? Other than weight loss there is a plethora of other uses!

Did you know that Apple Cider helps with diabetes? It is anti-glycemic,meaning that slows the transformation from complex carbs to sugar! Meaning that it gives your body more time to cleanse out the sugar from your blood helping to lower those levels. It also helps with your sinuses to break down mucous and can help level put heart issues! In the article below Mercola tells about using apple cider vinegar for hair care, skin care, and even cleaning your house! I am absolutely adding this into my daily routine!

I am so happy to be back on 30 Days to Fit, or 30 Days to Healthy Living as it is now called. The concept is pretty simple. You take a vegan protein powder and enjoy 2 shakes a day and one meal a day. Your calorie intake is roughly 1200 calories (more if you are breastfeeding, like me). The beauty is that over time you learn how to eat cleanly because you only have to worry about one meal a day! Many elimination diets out there are miserable because you have to worry about what to cook for breakfast and as soon as you are done you have to figure out what to cook for lunch. After that, you are on to worrying about calories and what to eat for dinner. It is EXHAUSTING! Over my health journey I have found that one meal a day is manageable. When I was first introduced to the idea of eating without dairy, sugar, gluten or bad oils I thought to myself,  “Really? You want me to starve!” How I was wrong. I have found that when you eat clean, food tastes better. When you aren’t eating the processed foods, the fruit tastes like candy!

Last night my husband set out hamburger for dinner. I thought to myself, “Ok, what am I going to make?” The thoughts ran through my mind: spaghetti? hamburgers? even stroganoff! Nope. I am determined to do this right! We are having meatballs. Yum! I went to one of my favorite sources Against All Grains Cookbook by Danielle Walker and adjusted slightly and here is what I did

  • 1 pound ground Beef
  • 1 large Eggs
  • 1 small sweet Onion, diced
  • ¼ cup ground Almond Flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground Garlic
  • 2-3 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • and a dash of Southern Seasoning (a pepper mix)
  • 1 small jar Marinara Sauce (or make your own)

It is quick and simple, my favorite kind of meal. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl mix together all ingredients. The mixture should be wet enough to stick together. On a greased cookie sheet (I grease mine with coconut oil) form golf ball sized meatballs and arrange on sheet. Cook for 30 minutes. I warmed marinara sauce to spread over mine and they were divine.

Anna Joy’s Tips: Be sure to cut your onions fine. I chopped them and left chunks and it was a little overpowering. Also if your chunks of onion are too big, your meatballs will not hold together well.

Cook up some veggies in a little coconut oil and you have yourself a meal! Below is a picture of my plate. Now I did not eat that much meat, four meatballs was plenty for me! They were just so pretty I had to arrange many!20170206_202655
